Packing Light Part 2: Travel Beauty Essentials

Remember when I taught you how to pack 9 outfits into carry on for a weeklong trip? Well, I’m back for part two of our “Packing Light” series, which is all about travel beauty.

It goes without saying that when attempting to pack light, one must always try to find sample-sized versions of their favorite beauty products (with a couple exceptions such as shampoo and conditioner depending on the length of your trip.) Some brands sell small sizes of their products for this purpose, but sometimes you have to get creative! I receive most of my travel-sized products in my Birchbox or Ipsy subscriptions, or from being a beauty insider at Sephora. However, if you don’t have access to those subscriptions or to a Sephora, you can always fill up empty containers of beauty products you have already used with your new favorite formulas.

Without further ado, here are the beauty essentials that I cannot travel without. Luckily, they all fit inside this super cute sundries zip pouch from Style Revel!

1. Number 4 Fluoro5 Elixer Restore & Repair Oil

I put some type of hair oil onto my hair after every wash to keep it shiny and healthy, so this restore & repair oil from Number 4 is perfect to travel with.

2. Embryolisse Lait Créme Concentré

You may have heard of this cult-classic product from legendary French brand Embryolisse already, but if you haven't tried it yet, you must get your hands on it ASAP! It is a deeply hydrating moisturizer that works on all skin types (including combination skin like mine, which is hard to accommodate sometimes.) I use it after exfoliating at night to keep my skin quenched.

3. Lavender Mint Moisturizing Shampoo by Paul Mitchell

4. Lavender Mint Moisturizing Conditioner by Paul Mitchell

This shampoo and conditioner set is my favorite right now because 1. it is safe for color treated hair, 2. it moisturizes without leaving my hair greasy, and 3. the scent is fresh, clean, and is proven to eliminate stress!

5. Gucci Bamboo Body Lotion

I'm loving this lotion I was given from a friend who is a perfume model. It smells so good and it isn't greasy or sticky.

6. Advanced Night Repair Eye Crème by Estée Lauder

I received this sample in a free gift with my purchase at Estée Lauder, and I've used it every night since. You can actually feel it working as it fills out the wrinkles around your eyes. Sometimes, in our early 20's, we don't think about using any type of anti-aging products quite yet, but if you just use 2 things to save your skin, make it an eye cream, and a moisturizer with SPF! It will make a difference down the road, I swear.

7. Image Skincare Daily Ultimate Protection Moisturizer SPF 50

Speaking of SPF, this moisturizer from Image is your new best friend. It also works for all skin types and leaves my skin smooth and even before I put my makeup on (not to mention it protects from any sun damage I may unknowingly expose myself to!)

BOTTOM ROW (left to right)

1. Bumble and Bumble. Don’t Blow It Hair Styler

This is another product I put in my hair almost every day. It enhances your natural texture while taming flyaways so your hair does not require a blow dryer. This is perfect for me because I hate blow drying my hair (it takes sooo long!) and toting a hair dryer around in my suitcase. Pro-tip for girls with little to no natural texture: apply a nickel-sized amount to your ends, and when your hair is 80% dry, twist it into a low bun. Secure with an elastic or bobby pin and allow to dry a little bit longer. Let it down, slightly scrunch, and enjoy natural-looking waves.

2. Amika: Perk Up Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo is an absolute must for traveling, because you never know when you will or will not have time to wash your hair.

3. Rusk Texture Dry Finishing Spray

I received this sample in my Birchbox last year, and it took me a while to try it, but when I did, I was amazed. I curled my hair with a 1" wand and spritzed this finishing spray onto my ends, and my style lasted for THREE DAYS. I'm so serious. I used dry shampoo on my roots the second and third days but my hair still looked so good I couldn't bear to wash it! I also came to find out that one of the managers at Style Revel, Delaini, uses it too and was just as impressed by it. So, it's a must-try!

4. Oribe Aprés Beach Wave and Shine Spray

Last but not least, this beach wave spray really helped turn my wand-curled waves into natural-looking beach waves, without making them crunchy or dried out. They were soft and shiny and perfect! Pack this especially if you are heading to the beach or anywhere else with 110% humidity to keep your waves looking polished.

I hope you enjoyed hearing about all my favorite beauty products that are essential to bring on your adventures this holiday season!
